My Advert On Watercolours

MY EVALUATION:

Idea’s:

Doing watercolours wasn’t my first idea but I decided it would be more interesting, as my first idea was on anime figurines I have at home, and the idea I had for them was to show that the amazon figurines were better than this other site’s figurines. I was going to show that the tiny figurines from the other site were bad as they don’t arrive put together and it was going to be a parody about someone trying to sell these figurines and gave up because it was too difficult, and they decided to get it from amazon where it was already put together. That was the premise of my first idea, however I do think that it was a good idea, but I don’t think it would work as I don’t think it would fit in the 30 second mark and would be too much of a parody for an advert as the ones I researched wasn’t like that.

I think that choosing the watercolours was the better choice as it had a vaster target audience and would fit in the 30 second mark and I learned new editing techniques that I wouldn’t have learnt if I didn’t choose watercolours.

My plan:

My final edit of my advert doesn't follow the storyboard i made before shooting my advert, this is because i didn't feel that it fit with the aesthetic i wanted to achieve with this advert.
Also with these scenes i had planned, some of the shots didn't go to plan for example the zooming out into the logo of prang as when i had the sketch and was ready to paint the colours all mixed together leaving an unappealing image.
Also the scene i intended of having was the shot of the water paints dripping down the page, this shot wasn't added due to the fact of the camera shaking.
I wanted the scene to be close up and we couldn't properly do that using the legs (tripod for the camera) as we couldn't get close enough to the paint.
The one other scene i couldn't get for my advert was the final scene i intended of having last, this was the paint splatters on the watercolour case. I didn't end up using this scene because I changed having the paint splatter on the paint case to having splatters on wet paper which made the effect of the paint moving on its own and from my research of wicks paint they show scenes of the paint moving on its own.

With the final edit and the order of the scenes show more of what you can do with the paint and what you can achieve with them in an interesting way that can appeal to artists.
how I could improve my planning is by sticking to it and having all of the scenes in focus and the order I organised them and change it in premier pro after I got all of the footage.

Research:

For my research of adverts, I researched two irrelevant adverts to see what other adverts have and use it in my own advert. I researched a children’s advert and a charity advert because I think it would help me see how different advert topics are advertised and see the similarities and differences of them. Along with the tow irrelevant adverts I researched I also researched two paint related adverts, they weren’t artistic paint they were wall paint however I think that the techniques used in them would work in the advert I was planning of making. In my paint research the target audience would have been young adults and above as it was wall paint however I would say that my target audience is practically everyone who is interested in art as my research on Survey Monkey showed and the asking of family members.

To improve my research, I think I should have researched more art posters and looked into my audience more as it is a little vague, but the things I think went well were the analysis of the adverts as that is an area I struggle with.

Editing:

With the editing I did on this project I think went relatively well as I learnt new things in the process, I learnt how to speed and slow things down, and how to add effects on them and transition smoothly. Thanks to this project I learnt new things that I may not have if I wasn’t making an advert, and overall, I think that it was edited well as the scenes work with the music and the transitions to each scene it is done well. In the editing process I did change the order of scenes and shots because I felt it would look more interesting in a viewer’s point of view and more visually appealing in the order I changed it to.

To improve my editing next time, I think I would change the pace as the shots are quick and you can’t see everything in the shot as there is a lot happening in the shot, also I think I need to be more organised with my clips and where everything is stored. Not everything in this project is put in organised folders which is important to keep everything in one place so that is the biggest improvement I think I need to do. Also, in the editing process some parts ended up being out of focus because I zoomed in on premier pro which made the scenes out of focus

Filming:

With the filming process I needed to use a new camera since my SD card is 168GB which means it is too large for the older camera’s so that was something that had to be organised with springboard. As for the filming itself was relatively easy as all I needed was a crew which I had already organised with my friends in both groups, and we organised days that it could be filmed. The things I think that went well with filming was that we SWEFF-ed the only reason that the final cut was out of focus was because I zoomed closely in premier pro which made it out of focus.

The biggest problem with the filming process was the shakiness as was the location, we were filming on a table outside of the classrooms which meant people walked past us and distracted the filming process and made some gaps in the footage which made it difficult to put in the scenes in my advert.

What I learnt from this project:

From this project I learnt how to edit using new techniques and adding effects o the video’s, which will help me with future projects and get more comfortable with premier pro.
I have also learnt more on how to use a camera, as before this project I didn’t know a lot about the basics of using a camera so by doing this project I know the basics and how to SWEFF and knowing the basics of using a camera will help me use them in my visual base project as I have gotten more confident with using them.
I have also learnt not to zoom in on premier pro as it becomes out of focus and unless that it what I am aiming for I won’t zoom in a lot on premier pro.
i have also learnt that time management is key in filming with a deadline because there may need to be re-shoots or more editing time and in my next project i will need to work on my time management and plan ahead of time if possible.
